VLT Carioca Line 1

Line 1 runs from Santos Dumont to Terminal Intermodal Gentileza and has 20 cataloged stops. VLT Rio 1.

The first line opened in 2016 as part of the port-area street reconstruction. Later routes added the Central, Praça XV, Rodoviária, and Terminal Gentileza links. The present route opened through those stages.

Riding the line

Validate with the current Jaé fare system before or immediately after boarding as directed. The VLT uses proof-of-payment checks rather than metro-style gates at every stop.

Current rolling stock and ride conditions: Low-floor electric trams run in streets and reserved lanes without overhead wires across much of the center.
