Nuremberg Castle stands on the sandstone ridge above the old city. The Holy Roman Empire had no fixed capital, so kings and emperors moved between imperial sites. Nuremberg was one of the important stops, and the castle is documented in 1050.
When you are there, look at position first: ridge, walls, city below, and the castle tied into the city defenses. It is less a cozy residence than a place for arrival, court assemblies, authority, and imperial display.
