Visited 2026I rode the Teleférico several times before it closed. The view over western Madrid and Casa de Campo is excellent, but the old system was not in great shape. I got stuck in a cabin once.
The Swiss company Von Roll built it, and Madrid opened it on June 26, 1969. Its 80 six-person cabins took 11 minutes to cover 2,457 meters between Pintor Rosales and Cerro Garabitas in Casa de Campo. The city took over operation in 2018.
Service was suspended after inspections found serious cable and structural problems. A complete rebuild began in January 2026. When I saw it again that June, only one cable was still hanging. The replacement will use 47 ten-person cabins, with reopening currently planned for the first quarter of 2027. Until then, use Metro Line 10 for Casa de Campo.
