Estación Retiro Mitre

Retiro Mitre is the grandest building in the Retiro railway group. Eustace L. Conder and Sydney G. Follett designed the terminal, while engineers Reginald Reynolds and Charles Dudley handled the train sheds. Construction began in 1909 and the station opened in August 1915.

The facade follows French academic architecture, but the two iron-and-glass sheds are the part to look for once inside. They were assembled from components made in Liverpool and give the platforms their huge clear spans. The station is a National Historic Monument and remains the Buenos Aires terminal for the Mitre commuter line and several longer-distance corridors.
