Retiro Railway Complex

Retiro is a group of three mainline terminals set beside one another: Mitre, Belgrano Norte, and San Martín. The Subte and the long-distance bus terminal add more layers to the same transport hub. Check the railway name before following a platform sign because entering the wrong hall can leave you farther from your train than the map suggests.

The three railway buildings tell different parts of the same story. San Martín opened in 1912 as a supposedly temporary iron, timber, and sheet-metal terminal. Belgrano followed in 1914 with a French-style mansard roof and corner dome. The much larger Mitre terminal opened in 1915 with a formal stone facade and two iron-and-glass train sheds. This parent record keeps the whole hub together, while the terminals with their own history have separate records.
