The Spanish Steps link Piazza di Spagna with the Pincian slope and the Church of Trinita dei Monti. Francesco de Sanctis designed the staircase, built from 1723 to 1726. Its 11 ramps divide into and rejoin as they climb, so the layout reads differently from the top and the square below.
