St. Jacobi is the Hamburg church to enter for organ history. Arp Schnitger built the main organ from 1689 to 1693 with 60 registers on four manuals and pedal, using material from earlier instruments.
The church was badly damaged in World War II, but the organ's pipework and wind chests had been removed in 1942 and survived. Look toward the west end. Older pipework sits inside a major Baroque instrument, which is why the organ anchors the room.

St. Jacobi is one of Hamburg's principal churches and houses the surviving Arp Schnitger organ completed in 1693.
