About

St Mary's Cathedral faces Victoria Square on the eastern side of central Perth. Work on the first cathedral began in 1863, then a much larger Gothic building grew around it in stages. A long-delayed expansion finally opened in 2009, leaving old and new masonry visible in the same structure. It remains an active Catholic cathedral, so visits need to fit around Masses and services. Entry is free.
