Syntagma

Athens, Greece

Visitedsquare

Mike's review

Syntagma is Athens' central political square, facing the Hellenic Parliament in the former royal palace. The monument most visitors stop for is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, unveiled in 1932 and guarded by the Evzones.

Treat it as a civic stop instead of a metro landmark. The square connects Parliament, the National Garden, Ermou, hotels, protests, ceremonies, and the changing of the guard. It is one of the places where modern Athens is most visible.
