Tram 2 is another useful Ring/inner-district surface line. I would not over-study it before a trip. I would remember that Vienna's trams can solve the short awkward movement the U-Bahn map makes look larger than it is.
The value is that you stay above ground. In Vienna, that matters because the streetscape is part of the attraction: the Ring, the civic buildings, the curve of the avenues, and the normal city moving around the monumental one.
