Vienna U-Bahn U6

U6 is the Vienna U-Bahn line with the most visible older railway personality. It runs along the Gurtel and uses infrastructure descended from the Stadtbahn world rather than feeling like a fully underground modern metro.

For many visitors it is not the first line you plan around, but it is one of the more interesting built-environment rides. Elevated sections, older station forms, and the way it skirts the inner districts make it feel less polished than U1/U3/U4 and more like a working cross-town railway.

Use it when the route makes sense. Ride it once if you enjoy seeing how a city adapts older rail infrastructure into a modern network.
