U4 is the line most visitors use for Schonbrunn Palace. It also connects Karlsplatz, Landstrasse/Wien Mitte, and the western side of the city.

The practical airport pattern is S7 or CAT to Wien Mitte, then U3/U4 depending on your hotel. The practical sightseeing pattern is U4 to Schonbrunn, then accept that the palace and gardens are their own half-day.

U4 also carries some of Vienna's old Stadtbahn inheritance. If you notice the infrastructure and station architecture feeling different from a pure late-20th-century metro, that is part of the point.
