Mount Lycabettus

Mount Lycabettus rises 277 meters above central Athens on the northeast side of Kolonaki. Paths and stairs climb through pine, cypress, and eucalyptus, while a road and the funicular provide other ways up. The whitewashed Church of Saint George stands near the summit, beside terraces with broad views across the city and toward the Saronic Gulf.

The hill was quarried for stone used in neoclassical Athens and later held military defenses and an open-air theatre. The ascent is steep and exposed in places. The nearest metro station to the walking route and funicular is Evangelismos.
