Mitre Line Mitre: Retiro–José León Suárez

The Mitre Retiro to José León Suárez branch connects Retiro with Palermo, Colegiales, Belgrano R, San Martín, Villa Ballester, and José León Suárez. Villa Ballester is also the transfer point for the outer diesel service to Zárate.

The tracks opened as part of the Central Argentine Railway's main route north from Buenos Aires in the late nineteenth century. Suburban growth turned the inner section into a busy commuter branch, and the railway received the Mitre name after nationalization in 1948.

Use SUBE for the fare and confirm José León Suárez on the departure board. The branch shares tracks out of Retiro with Bartolomé Mitre trains, so the concourse and first few stops do not identify the destination by themselves. Ministro Carranza connects with Subte Line D.

Modern air-conditioned electric trains cover the main branch and crowding can be heavy on workdays. Raised platforms make boarding easier at many stops, but wheelchair access and the platform gap vary by station. Passengers continuing toward Zárate change to a less frequent diesel train at Villa Ballester.
