Mitre Line Mitre: Retiro–Tigre

The Mitre Retiro to Tigre branch connects central Buenos Aires with Belgrano, Núñez, Vicente López, Olivos, San Isidro, and Tigre. It follows the river side of the northern suburbs and is the straightforward rail option for a day in Tigre.

Buenos Aires' northern railway opened to Tigre in the 1860s. The route later became part of the Central Argentine Railway and took the Mitre name after nationalization in 1948. More recent track and signal work has renewed infrastructure that had been in service for decades.

Use SUBE for the fare and tap at both ends where validators are provided. Trains leave from the Mitre concourse at Retiro, which is separate from the neighboring San Martín and Belgrano Norte terminals. The line gets crowded during the commute and on popular weekend trips to Tigre.

Modern electric trains have air-conditioned interiors and wide circulation between cars. All 17 stations have an alternative accessible route around the fare gates, but elevators, ramps, and the platform gap still deserve checking for a specific trip. Service changes are common during major engineering work, so look at Trenes Argentinos before leaving.
