EFE Central Suburban Rail Tren San Fernando–Estación Central

The Tren San Fernando-Estación Central extends the Rancagua corridor to Requínoa, Rengo, and San Fernando. The complete route is 134 km with thirteen listed stations.

The railway opened to San Fernando in 1862 as part of the Ferrocarril del Sur. The limited modern regional extension belongs to the operating pattern introduced with the Nos and Rancagua services in 2017.

This is not the frequent base pattern for the whole day. San Fernando and Rengo have limited departures, and Requínoa has a different weekend and holiday pattern from the weekday service.

Rancagua is the practical fallback transfer between the frequent regional section and the limited extension. San Fernando also receives selected Santiago-Chillán trains, but those require a reserved long-distance ticket.

Read the dated EFE timetable before traveling south of Rancagua. A missed train can create a long wait, and the final departure may be much earlier than Santiago Metro closes.

The three-car regional fleet has air conditioning, Wi-Fi, information screens, security cameras, and space for passengers with reduced mobility. These are commuter-style interiors with more standing capacity than a reserved long-distance train.

Local electronic payment applies to the regional train. Long-distance tickets and tourist wine trains from Santiago are separate products even when they use the same track.

Stations are at grade with raised platforms at the main stops. Arrange wheelchair or boarding assistance in advance for a limited departure because staff coverage can be narrower than at Rancagua or Alameda.
