Hellenic Train Passenger Rail Airport–Piraeus Suburban Railway

The suburban railway connects Athens International Airport with Doukissis Plakentias, Neratziotissa, Athens Central Station, and Piraeus. Direct trains use the mainline railway through Acharnai Railway Center rather than the M3 tunnel through Syntagma and Monastiraki.

Airport suburban service opened in 2004, and later timetable changes created a direct airport to Piraeus train across the metropolitan rail corridor. The present stopping pattern has operated under the revised 2025 Athens suburban timetable.

The airport fare is €9 and the ordinary OASA urban fare is €1.20 for trips that remain inside its stated zone. A supported Visa or Mastercard bank card can be tapped at urban gates, including for the airport fare, or a Hellenic Train or Ath.ena product can be used. Tap the same card or device at entry and exit.

Electric suburban trains provide air-conditioning, wide doors, luggage space, and onboard station announcements. They are more useful for Athens Central Station and the northern suburbs than for Syntagma, where M3 is direct.

Portable ramps support wheelchair boarding, and most modern suburban stations have elevators or level approaches. Hellenic Train recommends planning assistance 24 hours ahead. Piraeus station is not beside every ferry gate, so allow time for the final walk or port shuttle.
