Hellenic Train Passenger Rail Piraeus–Kiato Regional Railway

The regional line connects Piraeus and Athens with Ano Liosia, Megara, Corinth, and Kiato on the Gulf of Corinth. At Kiato, passengers can change to the train for Aigio or the Hellenic Train bus toward Patras.

The modern standard-gauge corridor opened westward in stages during the 2000s, replacing the older meter-gauge route from Athens toward the Peloponnese. Direct service through the rebuilt Piraeus approach returned as the Athens suburban network expanded.

Buy a Hellenic Train ticket for travel beyond the OASA urban zone. Contactless bank-card tapping works for journeys inside the published Athens urban area, but it does not cover the full ride to Corinth or Kiato. Tickets for this line allow some flexibility around the printed departure time under current regional rules.

Electric suburban rolling stock provides air-conditioning, wide doors, toilets on most sets, and space for luggage. Hourly service is useful, but trains can be crowded through Athens and delays on the busy shared corridor are common enough to protect a connection at Kiato.

Portable ramps support wheelchair boarding on the line, though platform height and staffing vary outside the city. Arrange assistance 24 hours ahead when it is essential. At Kiato, current operating notices assign separate platforms to Piraeus and Aigio trains, so a cross-platform transfer should not be assumed.
