Hellenic Train Passenger Rail Athens–Chalkida Regional Railway

The regional line connects Athens Central Station with Agioi Anargyroi, Acharnai Railway Center, Oinoi, and Chalkida on Evia. It serves a long chain of northern Attica stations before crossing the narrow channel into Chalkida.

Rail service to Chalkida opened in the early 20th century as a branch from the Athens to Larissa main line. The current suburban-style timetable uses the rebuilt and electrified Athens corridor before turning east at Oinoi.

Buy a Hellenic Train ticket online, through the app, or at a staffed office. Contactless bank-card tapping covers only journeys inside the OASA urban zone, not the full ride to Chalkida. Regional tickets on this service have flexible validity around the printed time.

Electric multiple-unit rolling stock normally provides air-conditioning, wide doors, toilets, and onboard announcements. Trains make many closely spaced stops and can be crowded near Athens during commuter periods.

Portable ramps support wheelchair boarding, but smaller stations do not all offer the same platform access or staffing. Plan assistance at least 24 hours ahead when required. Current notices sometimes move Dekeleia boarding to the opposite platform during single-line operation, so read station signs carefully.
