The Zagreb to Osijek route in the current timetable connects Zagreb with Bjelovar, Virovitica, Slatina, Našice, Bizovac, and Osijek. It is the northern inland route across Slavonia, distinct from services that approach eastern Croatia through Slavonski Brod and Vinkovci.
This corridor grew from several nineteenth-century railways rather than opening as one through line. Zagreb’s route toward Koprivnica opened in 1870, while the Virovitica and Slavonian sections were joined later.
Buy a ticket for a specific train through HŽPP’s website or app, at a station office or machine, or from the conductor. Domestic e-tickets are 10 percent cheaper than the standard station fare, while onboard purchase costs 10 percent more. There is no contactless bank-card tap-in system or gated metro fare. HŽPP explains the sales channels here.
HŽPP’s fleet includes modern low-floor electric and diesel multiple units alongside older rolling stock. Vehicle allocation varies, so air-conditioning and low-floor boarding should be checked rather than assumed.
HŽPP lists mobile wheelchair lifts at Zagreb Glavni kolodvor and Osijek and asks passengers to request assistance at least 24 hours ahead. Intermediate stations may have low platforms and limited staff. HŽPP publishes its assistance procedure and lift locations here.
