HŽPP Passenger Rail HŽPP Zagreb to Vukovar

The Zagreb to Vukovar route connects the capital with Kutina, Novska, Nova Gradiška, Slavonski Brod, Vinkovci, and Vukovar. It follows Croatia’s principal east-west railway before branching north from Vinkovci for the final run to the Danube.

The main Slavonian railway opened in stages during the nineteenth century and made Zagreb, Brod, and the Vinkovci junction part of the same east-west corridor. Passenger service to Vukovar now uses the branch beyond Vinkovci.

Buy a ticket for a specific train through HŽPP’s website or app, at a station office or machine, or from the conductor. Domestic e-tickets are 10 percent cheaper than the standard station fare, while onboard purchase costs 10 percent more. There is no contactless bank-card tap-in system or gated metro fare. Long-distance services can use modern low-floor multiple units or other HŽPP rolling stock, and the exact fleet varies by train. Air-conditioning and onboard facilities are therefore departure-specific, while peak and holiday services can be crowded.

HŽPP lists mobile wheelchair lifts at Zagreb Glavni kolodvor, Slavonski Brod, and Vinkovci, with assistance requested at least 24 hours ahead. Do not assume level boarding at smaller stops or at the Vukovar branch stations. HŽPP publishes its assistance procedure and lift locations here.
