Mike’s notes
North Macedonia’s current passenger timetable is small and centered on Skopje. Trains run north to Kumanovo, south to Veles and Gevgelija, and southwest through Prilep to Bitola and Zhabeni. The physical railway continues farther in several directions, but a track on the map does not mean a passenger train operates there.
Routes and frequency
Kumanovo has two departures from Skopje in the current timetable. Veles has the most service because trains for Gevgelija and Bitola share the same line south from Skopje. Gevgelija has two daily through trains from Skopje, while Bitola has three.
No passenger train continues from Kumanovo to Serbia or from Gevgelija into Greece. Kočani is marked temporarily suspended, and the timetable has no train to Kičevo or Kosovo. Skopje’s first dedicated city-train service is announced for September 2026 and is not included as an operating system yet.
Tickets and payment
The operator sells tickets at railway ticket offices and through conductors on board. The official 2025/26 fare table lists Skopje to Kumanovo at 87 MKD, Veles at 113 MKD, Gevgelija at 277 MKD, and Bitola at 314 MKD one way. Round trips receive a 20 percent discount.
There is no published bank-card tap-in system. Carry Macedonian denars and allow time to use a staffed station window when one is open. The timetable does not promise online or app ticketing.
Trains and accessibility
The fleet includes newer CRRC electric and diesel multiple units alongside older locomotives, coaches, and railcars. Vehicle allocation can change, so air-conditioning, toilets, seating, and low-floor boarding should not be assumed from the route alone.
The timetable uses a wheelchair symbol only for trains designated to carry passengers with reduced mobility. Stations and rural halts are not consistently step-free, and some have low platforms or track-level approaches. Confirm the exact train with the operator if mobility assistance is required.

The first railway through present-day North Macedonia opens between Skopje and Thessaloniki.
1888
Northern connection
The railway extends north through Kumanovo toward Serbia.
1936
Bitola route completed
The Veles to Prilep section completes the through railway from Skopje to Bitola.
2015
New multiple units
The first of six CRRC electric and diesel trainsets arrives for passenger service.
