ŽRSM Passenger Rail Skopje–Bitola

The Skopje to Bitola line connects the capital with Veles, the Babuna valley, Prilep, Bitola, and Zhabeni. Three daily trains leave Skopje in the current timetable, but only one continues beyond Bitola to Kravari and Zhabeni.

The route was completed in stages. The Prilep to Bitola railway opened in 1931, and the difficult Veles to Prilep section through Bogomila opened in 1936 to create the through line from Skopje.

A one-way ticket from Skopje to Bitola costs 314 MKD, while the round-trip fare is 502 MKD. Tickets come from station offices or the conductor. Contactless bank-card tap-in and mobile ticketing are not listed in the operator’s current instructions.

Services can use newer CRRC diesel multiple units or older rolling stock. The mountain section is slow, and air-conditioning, toilets, low-floor access, and seating conditions depend on the assigned train.

The timetable marks only selected trains for passengers with reduced mobility. Smaller halts have low platforms and may be unstaffed, so wheelchair users should confirm the departure and station access before relying on the route.
