The Skopje to Gevgelija line connects the capital with Veles, Gradsko, Negotino, Demir Kapija, Miravci, and Gevgelija near the Greek border. Two daily trains make the full trip in the current timetable. They do not continue to Idomeni or Thessaloniki.
The railway opened in 1873 as the first line through present-day North Macedonia, linking Skopje with Thessaloniki under the Ottoman Empire. Cross-border passenger service has since disappeared, leaving Gevgelija as the southern terminus.
The one-way fare from Skopje to Gevgelija is 277 MKD and the round-trip fare is 444 MKD. Buy a ticket at the station office or from the conductor. There is no bank-card tap-in system or published contactless fare validator.
The corridor is electrified, and trains can use newer CRRC electric multiple units or older rolling stock. Vehicle assignment varies, so climate control, toilets, and low-floor boarding are not guaranteed solely by the timetable.
Only a departure marked with the reduced-mobility symbol should be treated as accessible. Many intermediate stations have low platforms or limited staffing. Stay clear of tracks at rural stops and confirm wheelchair arrangements before travel.
Check the official 2025/26 timetable for times and symbols.
