Basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina

San Lorenzo in Lucina is one of Rome's oldest parish churches, with remains beneath it tied to an early Christian meeting place and the Horologium of Augustus. The church was consecrated in the fifth century, rebuilt in the twelfth and raised above street level in the seventeenth to protect it from flooding. Inside are Guido Reni's Crucifixion, a chapel designed by Bernini and a relic traditionally identified as part of Saint Lawrence's gridiron.
